It’s Time to Get Down With the Gaga!

Family Day of Fun Planned at JFCS in Cherry Hill on April 27

“GO GAGA for JFCS” to offer gaga games, crafts, and food for the entire family

Are your kids missing the game gaga from their days at camp? Now they can play gaga and help JFCS programs and services. Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Southern Jersey (JFCS) invites parents and children to GO GAGA for JFCS on April 27, 2014 at the Katz JCC Gymnasium on Springdale Rd in Cherry Hill from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. The fast-paced gaga game that is played much like dodge ball is the theme for our day of family fun! Interested families can register online at www.jfcssnj.org/calendar/gaga14.

Gaga originated back in the 1960s and the game was introduced through the exchange of Israeli madrikhim (counselors) to Australia or Australian madrikhim returning from Israel. The game is a variant of dodge ball and combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping. The object is to hit opponents with a ball below the knee while avoiding being hit. Groups of individual players, teams, and one-on-one matches are ways the game is played. The game may sometimes be referred to as “Israeli dodge-ball.”

“GO GAGA for JFCS will be a wonderful way for families to enjoy a fun, educational and fulfilling day of mitzvot in our community,” says Hope Morgan, GO GAGA for JFCS Committee Chairperson. “This is JFCS’ first family event for the community and will be a way for children and their parents to learn about our agency’s services, yet also have a great time playing gaga, enjoying crafts, and eating yummy snacks.”

Space is limited, so the public is encouraged to register their families early. If you’re not a gaga player, no worries. Non-players can still come and enjoy crafts, snacks, and fun during the gaga games. The event is sponsored by Sahara Sam’s/Diggerland USA, but various levels of sponsorship are still available. Registration is $18/family (includes t-shirts for the kids). Children must be at least five years old to participate. For more information, or to register, call Beth Wynne at 856-424-1333 or register online at http://www.jfcssnj.org/calender/gaga14.
