JFCS Pantries Experiencing Low Inventory Need Your Help!
Our Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantries are experiencing very low inventory. As many families in our area have children home from school in the summer, the number of meals needed daily are increased, as they are not off-set by a school lunch or breakfast program. Please drop off any food items you can to help support our pantries during this crucial time. Our main address is: 1301 Springdale Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003. If you have questions, please call Andi Loew at 856-424-1333, xt. 1180 or email aloew@jfedsnj.org.
Support JFCS Addiction/Heroin Awareness Program in Honor of Justin Wolfe on June 9th – Tickets Now On Sale
Justin Matthew Wolfe would have been turning 25 years old on June 11th of this year.
His life, however, was cut short at the age of 21 from a heroin overdose on December 19, 2012. His father, Gregg Wolfe, sponsors the (JFCS) Right In Our Backyard Program, developed to increase awareness in the South Jersey community, prevent addiction and addiction-related deaths, and keep our youth healthy and armed with the knowledge to make informed decisions. On June 9th, you can support this program at a very special fundraising event at the Mansion in Voorhees at 5:30 PM, in honor of Justin’s birthday. Get tickets by clicking here.
So far, the Right in Our Backyard program has reached over 700 teens and their parents. The program has also partnered with Camden County for expanded outreach, and has traveled from the Jersey shore to Baltimore in furtherance of our goal of saving lives. Tragically, the number of overdose deaths in New Jersey is more than triple the national rate, and “now [heroin overdose] eclipses homicide, suicide, car accidents and AIDS as a cause of death in the state.” (NJ.com article of 7/8/15).
Please join Gregg, JFCS, and friends, for Justin’s birthday benefit on Thursday, June 9th, at the Mansion in Voorhees, at 5:30pm. ALL PROCEEDS raised at Justin’s benefit will go into the
JFCS Right in Our Backyard Program, to enable us to continue to spread our message and save lives.
WHEN- Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT) – Add to Calendar

JFCS special needs employment program aids clients & businesses
By LARA BARRETT – JFCS communications director
Noakes is responsible for carrying out crucial quality control measures on the resin batches, including compliance monitoring, such as making sure probes are calibrated and Ph levels are checked. “He has done a fabulous job with his duties—and you know it’s always done right,” said Smith.
Noakes worked with JFCS Senior Supported Employment Specialist Karen Alaimo, and received assistance polishing his resume and building interviewing skills to land his ideal job. “I studied at Burlington County College, and received my Associate’s Degree of Science, and Karen helped me look for a job in a lab,” he said. “I like it here because everyone is very friendly and Tom has helped me learn more in the lab.”
There are a few other reasons he feels at home at ResinTech, and personal growth is one of them. “I now know how to do a lot of procedures here, and its important work because I have to make sure there are no problems before we process anything,” said Noakes, the selfconfidence evident as he speaks. “I feel really proud of myself. I counted up…I did over 10,000 sample tests since I started here in February 2014.”
Noakes is quick to point out a key ingredient of what makes the JFCS Supported Employment Program so successful: The willingness of local companies to take a chance on someone with special needs, and give them the opportunity to be a productive member of the working world. “I want to tell people one of the important things about this program, which is the way JFCS networks with local companies for us to find jobs—the networking is so important,” he said. “Without it, it would be really hard to find a job.”
To make a positive difference in someone’s life by becoming an employer of an individual with special needs through the Supported Employment Program, call JFCS Special Needs Program Director Barbara Abrams at (856) 424-1333, ext. 1182.

You have invested a lot of time and effort into your health and mind throughout the years. Don’t give up that ownership now! Suzi Abrams, RN, will teach you to ask the right questions from medical professionals – and get the answers you are looking for. Shavua Tov by: Marla Meyers, JFCS Executive Director
Wonderful news to share!! The Jewish Federation has made settlement this morning on the former Bethel property at 1721 Springdale Road. The building will be renamed the ‘Center for Living and Learning’ and will house a host of dynamic programs including the JFCS TOPS and SAIL programs beginning in the FY15 fiscal year. The new center will also create opportunities for additional multigenerational ecology & sustainability, sports & fitness, and arts & culture programs and the beautiful and expansive grounds will allow for terrific outdoor activities. Mazel tov to Jen Weiss, Betty Adler, Brad Molotsky and others for their vision in moving this project forward.
• The Softball SAILORS are enjoying a winning year! Our devoted team of Sailors has been practicing and enjoying a ton of fun and camaraderie this year. The co-ed group, through the Special Needs Department, has been honing their skills and have enjoyed 2 recent wins at their playing field in Trenton. In just two short weeks they will participate in the Spring Special Olympics Games at the College of New Jersey along with hundreds of athletes representing numerous sports. Go team SAILORS!
• “Repairing the World: One Wednesday at Time” wraps up with a bang. Our cosponsored Hebrew High School curriculum with Adath Emanu El has commenced after a tremendous pilot year. The students will be forever changed by the lessons and experiences that were afforded them. The final workshop focused on ‘Learning from our Elders’ with a terrific program held at Brightview Greentree. Social Worker, Reva Farenback-Brateman led a terrific conversation that allowed 28 seniors to dialogue with 10 kids about their lives as teenagers. Both seniors and teens shared what it ‘was’ like and what ‘it is’ like to be a teen in society. Questions ranged from their first job and what it paid to what they did after school, where they grew up, and when they started dating. JFCS looks forward to working with the synagogue over the summer months in preparation for the next academic year.
• Patient Partners is gearing up for another mid-year training. With interest from new volunteers, the program will offer another comprehensive training session. To date this year, the program has served 39 clients with a total of 23 volunteers who have provided 800 hours of service.
• Save the Date: TONIGHT Monday May 19th Brith Sholom Dine for Donations at Short Hills. 4:00-9:00pm. Proceeds will benefit JFCS.
